Kappa Delta Rho is a brotherhood, a fraternal family. When a brother is in crisis our hope is that we are able to respond.
Two years ago, the KDR Leadership realized we had a tragic pattern of experiencing, on average, one suicide per year, for the past ten years, (that we know of) among our undergraduate or recent graduate brothers. For all of us, these are heart-wrenching losses.
We know it is a societal issue. But we concluded, as a fraternal family, if we can provide resources to our brothers to help, then we should do that.
One aspect of the program is the KDR lifeline web resource: www.kappadeltarho.ulifeline.org Since going ‘live’ in January of 2019, more than 2,000 brothers, both on campus and alumni, have accessed the site. Most importantly, 83 have hit the “get help now” button. We will never know who or where or why. However, we do know that if just one brother in crisis got the help and support he needed to get past the crisis point, the whole program is worthwhile.
The goal of the campaign is to raise $2.5 million or more to endow the program and assure the resources are always available. We are asking brothers to join together and make a five-year pledge to support the campaign. It may well be the most important thing KDR has ever done. Together we will change, and quite likely save, lives.
